No Run Club Today :(

Sorry for the late notice, but due to the weather, we will NOT be having run club today. I'll head down to the park shelter just in case anyone shows up. If people wanted to stay and run, I'd be glad to run with them.

Fun and Sun on the Run

First of all, I apologize for the cheesy title. I just wanted to add a quick note that any of the runners who are attending VBS are more than welcome to leave early (or skip run club) . . .as long as your parents know. Most of the kids can be done as early as 8:30 if they run a shorter distance and skip out on the stretching. This Friday, we will be playing games and ending run club at 9AM!!! Notice this is different from last Friday when we ended at 9:30. We won't be having breakfast since most runners will be at VBS this week. I hope to see you all at run club and I hope that you stay cool and well hydrated. The past few weeks we learned the running basics: stretching, warming up and cooling down, proper running form and road manners. THIS week, we will learn the importance of hydration and proper heat management (appropriate for the temperatures to come!)

Here are some pictures from our fun day on Friday. A special thanks for Don and Kathy Pflederer for making breakfast! If anyone else is interested in providing some grub, just let me know!

Run Club Volunteers at Turkey Fest

The Tremont Summer Run Club lended a hand to the community by volunteering at the Tremont Turkey Festival Food line. We were fortunate enough to receive some funds from the Tremont Betterment Association, and decided that a day of service would be the best way to express our gratitude. Thanks to all the runners who came to help out! I recieved several comments from Food-Line chairmen that your work was appreciated!

Here are some pictures from yesterday's activities:

First Run Club!

As most of you HOPEFULLY have heard. The first official run club is THIS WEDNESDAY from 8am to 9am. REMEMBER THAT WE ALSO HAVE A SHORT PARENT'S MEETING AT 9AM AFTER RUN CLUB. (Just find me when you pick your child up so I can meet you and answer any questions).

ALSO, this Friday we will still meet at 8am. Fridays usually end at 9:30, however, we have decided to volunteer our time to help with set-up at the Turkey Festival Food line from 8-11am. Kids are welcome to stay as long as they want (8-11), and we will be at the park the entire time. For those who are unaware, the Tremont Betterment Association has donated some money to the run club and our volunteer service at the Turkey Festival is just a small token of our gratitude for their kindness. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

***Since we are volunteering this Friday, there will be no guest speaker or breakfast.

Welcome!

Thanks for checking out the blog! I've already posted a "rough" replica of the necessary documents for joining the Summer Run Club. Each child needs to fill out a waiver before participating. You can copy the waiver from the post or email me (qwikchik90@gmail.com) for a "prettier" version.

THE FIRST OFFICIAL RUN CLUB MEETING IS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10TH, 8AM AT THE LITTLE PARK SHELTER. THERE WILL BE A SHORT PARENT MEETING AT 9AM AFTER RUN CLUB.

So, what exactly IS the Tremont Summer Run Club? Eight summers ago, a group of Jr. and Sr. High cross country runners started meeting at the city park to run together. Each year, we grew in numbers and diversity until last year, we had nearly thirty kids from ages 10 to 18!
The Run Club is NOT just for Cross Country and Track runners, it is a chance to introduce kids to running and offer a summer program. Anyone, ages 10 and up can participate as long as they have turned in a waiver to myself or another supervisor. I hope to have a listing of all supervisors and phone numbers posted by the end of next week.
We will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8am in the little park shelter unless noted otherwise. Hopefully, you will find the summer calendar at the bottom of this blog. You can click on various events to view the time or description. RUN CLUB ENDS AT 9AM ON MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS AND AT 9:30AM ON FRIDAYS. On Fridays, we usually do something fun like soccer or capture the flag. These days will go longer to provide room for breakfast or a guest speaker.
Other special activities may include pool parties and guest race entries. I'll be updating the blog as much as I can, so keep up the communication and check the blog regularly. I'm very excited to see what the summer has in store for us. Please call (267-7567) or email qwikchik90@gmail.com with ANY questions or concerns. Thank you.

To God be the Glory

Tremont Summer Run Club Information

  • TSRC Goals
    • HAVE FUN!

If twenty years from now, the kids are living a healthy lifestyle and getting regular exercise, we’ve been successful. If we also encourage some runners to join the school cross country and track programs, that’s just icing on the cake J

    • TEACH KIDS HOW TO RUN

Many kids do not know how to run long distance. They are unfamiliar with pacing strategy and distance dynamics. Our goal is to teach them to run at a steady, even pace that matches their physical ability

    • INTRODUCE KIDS TO COACH LYNN AND GOSSMEYER’S RUNNING ROUTINE

If the kids join one of the school teams, they should know what will be expected of them: Pre-workout stretching and warm-up, age/ability appropriate workouts, cool down after running, team cooperation and cohesiveness, etc.

  • TSRC FAQs
    • So what is my child DOING every day?
      • Workouts may very, but the first week or so is spent “working into” a pace that is comfortable for each individual. Workouts are meant to push everyone, not push them over the edge. Every day will consist of “roll call”, short meeting, warm-up, stretch, workout, cool down, occasional refreshments (Breakfast on designated Fridays).
    • When is pickup/drop off time?
      • Run club is 8am-9am on normal days unless designated otherwise as a Breakfast day, pool day, or special activity
      • PLEASE PICK YOUR CHILD UP ON TIME!
    • WHO is working with my kids?
      • There will ALWAYS be a supervisor who is an upperclassman or older with the kids . . . otherwise, run club will be canceled.
      • Volunteer supervisors include current or retired cross country runners
      • A list of supervisors and phone numbers will be handed out when Run Club Begins
    • What happens during bad weather?
      • For the most part, we will cancel for bad weather. Rain is tolerable, but if the forecast is shady, we won’t run. In the event that severe weather (i.e. lightning or tornadoes) arises, the kids will take shelter in one of the supervisor’s homes and call for a ride.
      • All cancellations weather or non-weather related will be posted on the blog as soon as the decision is made
